Esther was a trailblazer, a dedicated public servant, a lifelong educator, and a master creator. Before her passing in October 2025, just shy of her 95th birthday, Esther bequeathed her remaining hand-stitched quilts to be sold, with 100% of the proceeds directly benefitting Texas Children’s Hospital’s Population Health Program (an upSTART Community Program).
When you purchase one of Esther’s quilts, you are not just buying a piece of beautiful, handcrafted art—you are carrying forward the legacy of a woman who dedicated her entire life to wrapping her community in care, advocacy, and love.
NOTE: The purchase of a quilt is not a tax-deductible gift since you are receiving an item in return for the amount spent. However, direct donations to Texas Children's Hospital do qualify for tax receipts which will be sent to you directly from Texas Children’s Hospital.
From fabric scraps to 200 quilts
Long before she became a celebrated community leader, Esther was known for her brilliant creative skills in crocheting, knitting, embroidering, and sewing. As a self-taught seamstress, she lovingly created wardrobes for herself, her three daughters, and even their Barbie dolls.
In the mid-1970s, facing a growing dilemma of what to do with her leftover material scraps, Esther turned to quilting. Over the next several decades, she beautifully pieced together an estimated 200 unique quilts of various sizes and intricate patterns. While most were gifted to loved ones over the years, her final, cherished collection is available here to bless a new generation of families.
Wrapping the future in hope
The late María Esther Estrada Campos will forever be remembered as a role model for the diverse, vibrant population of her beloved East End and the city of Houston.
Through this website, her final acts of love are realized. Every dollar raised from these quilts funds the Texas Children’s Hospital Population Health Program, ensuring that all children—regardless of background—have the opportunity to grow up healthy, supported, and loved.
